Psychology discussion – Connectionism and Learning

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read “Connectionism and Learning” (pp. 25-33), “Self-Regulated Learning and Socio-Cognitive Theory” (pp. 34-39), “Vygotsky and Recent Developments” (pp. 40-45) and “Theoretical Bases of Computer Supported Learning” (pp. 46-51) in your text as well as the information from The Critical Thinking Community.

We will write a custom paper specifically for you.

In your initial post, you will focus on just one of the articles from your text. The articles are assigned by first letter of last name. Please see the list below to determine which of the articles you will focus on for your initial post. Last name begins with:

A through G: “Connectionism and Learning”

In your initial post of 450 to 600 words, explain what the empirical findings presented in your assigned article mean in the bigger picture of learning and cognition. Describe how these findings might have affected your past or current beliefs about knowledge development. Do they refute or support your current beliefs, and in what ways? Are there variables about knowledge development for which you were unaware based on your article?

After addressing the questions above, choose one of the sources in the bibliography from your assigned article, taking into consideration what information it supports. Search for the source in the Ashford University Library. Note that many of the sources are retrievable in this location. If you select one that is not available, simply choose another. For example, a passage in an article from your text reads: “For a stark example of this interdependence between biology, social interaction, and cognitive simulation…Nelson et al (2007) found that…” (p. 12).

If you look at the bibliography for this article, Nelson et al is:

Nelson, III, C. A., Zeanah, C. H., Fox, N. A., Marshall, P. J., Smyke, A. T., & Guthrie, D. (2007). Cognitive recovery in socially deprived young children: The Bucharest Early Intervention Project. ScienceAGRIS, 318(5858), 1937-1940. doi: 10.1126/science.1143921

Once you have located the article, download and read it. Apply the research method presented in the second article (reviewing supporting sources) to the content within your assigned article. Does the information disclosed in the article align with where it is cited in your article? How? Why is it important for scholars to apply ethical standards, such as reviewing cited articles, to the alignment of their content?

Review and apply the Type I thinking style outlined in the Zhang and Sterberg (2010) “Learning in a Cross-Cultural Perspective” article from your text to each of your responses.
