King Lear deals with how children and parents treat each other. Lear's daughters Regan and Goneril are clearly evil people, as is Gloucester’s natural son, Edmund. Yet simply to characterize them in such a black-and-white way would be to do the play a great injustice. Using their own lines and their situations as your evidence (illustrations/examples), write a one page (250 word) defense of either Regan and Goneril or of Edmund that helps us understand that their malignity is not motiveless, but arises out of understandable causes. Put differently, your paper should help to explain these characters' bad behavior. Make sure to answer the question fully, proofing for spelling, grammar, and logic errors. Your essay should have at least one direct quotation that includes in-text parenthetical citation in MLA format.
