This is a CLC assignment.
Topic/Issue Selection: Each CLC team may select one topic to discuss. If the group experiences difficulty in the selection process, the instructor may assign the specific topic.
To complete this assignment, each CLC team will write a combined 1,500-word persuasive paper debating a controversial topic picked by your CLC group in topic 6 and approved by your instructor. Please only have the team lead submit the topic of choice to their individual forums for instructor approval.
- Each group will submit a filled-in copy of the CLC Agreement Form.
- The selected issue must adhere to the broad category of “controversial.” The argument must be able to present two sides (for and against).
- Belief in the issue is not a prerequisite; groups will be graded on the quality of the argument. First person and opinion should not be used.
Division of Teams: Each CLC team will be divided in half, representing the two sides of the chosen issue. There must be a relatively equal number of students on each CLC team representing each side of the team’s issue. For example, a CLC team of four would have two members on one side of the issue; they will argue “for” the issue, while two members on the other side of the issue argue “against”. For uneven numbered groups, the odd numbered team mate as an example, could be assigned to write the introduction, conclusion, submit to turnitin and revise, as well as edit.
- Each side must construct propositions for specific viewpoints on the issue and counterarguments against the other side’s viewpoint.
Final Product: Each side is responsible for approximately 500-600-word paper that will be combined into a single group submission culminating in a minimum of 1,500 words, including your introduction and conclusion.
Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
Include a minimum of two to four scholarly sources per viewpoint. This can include past classroom materials as well as your textbook. You will compile all references used on both sides to complete an APA formatted reference page of four to eight references. The reference section and title page are not included in the word count.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
