Evidence-Based Research and Quality of Care

Evidence-based medicine is defined as “the systematic application of the best available evidence to the evaluation of options and decisions in clinical practice, management, and policy-making” (Sultz & Young, 2011, p. 380). Evidence is the key to accountability, so if evidence for certain practices have been repeatedly demonstrated in literature to improve the health status and quality of life of the participants, then those results should support a change in process or procedure. In Week 1, you analyzed the article titled “Building a Bridge to Somewhere Better: Linking Health Care Research and Health Policy” by Davis, Gross, and Clancy (2012) to identify successful partnerships with major stakeholders in the US healthcare industry. In Week 2, you recommended the trainings necessary for physicians shifting from hospital-based care to community care. In Week 3, you demonstrated how evidence-based research contributes to health policies. In Week 4, you examined the use of social marketing as a communication channel in healthcare. This week, you will examine how health services research projects contribute to the quality of care. Write a 3–5-page essay in Microsoft Word format that includes the following: Identify two research projects outlined in the article by Davis, Gross, and Clancy (2012) that contribute to the quality of care. Evaluate how these two health services research projects contribute to the quality of care. Using the South University Online Library, select two additional journal articles with research studies that complement the ones you selected from the article by Davis, Gross, and Clancy (2012). Describe these additional articles, focusing on how they contributed to the quality of care. In addition, be sure to include a minimum of five scholarly references in your support of your statements. Be sure to support your statements with appropriate examples. Cite all sources using the APA format. References: Davis, M. M., Gross, C. P., & Clancy, C. M. (2012).
