We understand ones opinion of the use of forgiveness versus revenge.  In my opinion I don’t believe either is necessary.  Revenge brings on more road blocks and negative behaviors but forgiveness while more cathartic is not as easy, clear cut, and helpful as one may think.  Forgiveness is seen as “an interpersonal process” (Goldie, 2013, p.5) and as such, the individual needs to come to it authentically.  Herein lies the problem of easer said than done.  Given the difference of opinions on the issue of forgiveness and revenge by mental health professionals and individuals in general, what are the ethical considerations if you are treating a patient who has the opposite opinion of yours in this instance?
